Emergency Room Visit Following Car Collision

Phoenix Car Accident Emergency Room 101

If you or a loved one have been involved in a car accident in Arizona this can be a very confusing and stressful time for you. Immediately following a car accident a lot happens. First, you have to come to terms with the fact that you were just involved in a car accident. Then, your mind starts to rush. You think about who is hurt. Are you hurt? Are any of the other passengers hurt? Next, you may wonder how this accident actually happened. Who is at fault? All of this is normal.

If police and/or EMT are on scene, they will ask you if you are hurt and if you want to go to the emergency room. It is highly advisable that you go to the ER to be medically assessed for any injuries that you or your passengers may have sustained as a result of your motor vehicle collision. Following a car accident, you are more than likely in the middle of an adrenalin rush and everything that is going on can seem very strange to you since you may not be thinking clearly. We have found that many people who have never been in an accident think they should call their insurance company. In actuality, the most important thing you can do at the scene of an accident is to make sure you and your loved ones are doing ok health wise.

If you do go to the emergency room, answer any and all questions and answer them honestly. Do not over state or under state the condition of your injuries. You will then undergo a physical examination by a medical doctor or physician’s assistant who is specifically trained to assess you for any life threatening injuries or issues. This examination is well worth the time and effort you will need to put forward to be at the ER. However, it is important to realize that if you are released from the emergency room this means that you have no life threatening injuries, but more than likely will have underlying traumatically induced injuries that may take up to 2 weeks to express themselves. And that is just the starting point!

A surprising amount of car accident victims refuse to go the emergency room, because they think they are not injured or don’t want to go to the ER, because of how long they will be there. If time is an issue then go to an urgent care center. There are more of them and less of a wait.

Going to the ER or an urgent care following a car wreck accomplishes two very important issues. First, your health will be assessed and, second, any injuries you have sustained will be documented.
